Works carried out for M&P Construction consisted of the demolition of six 4 storey Blocks of Flats together with the concrete roadways leading to them. Soft-stip works of the buildings had been carried out by the Walmac Demolition- the Main Contractor prior to Shannon Valley’ commencement on site leaving a concrete and steel shell ready for the Group’s Hitachi 650 and Hitachi 500 long reach excavators with 8 tonne hydraulic breakers and munchers to carry out the demolition work. The Group’s team of experts grubbed-up and removed all of the services including water-mains, gas and lighting. The mechanical demolition works were the first part of the task in hand. The scope of works also included the safe processing, crushing, removal and disposal of the demolition material which consisted of hardcore, concrete and steel. From the environmental protection point of view an important part of the project was to crush and recycle as much of the concrete as possible to minimise the amount of waste that would otherwise have to be sent to landfill. Shannon Valley’s Kleeman’s Mobicat MC Evo and Rubble Master’s RM100 mobile crushers efficiently carried out this element of the works. In order to minimize the impact the demolition works had on the adjacent properties and public areas, noise, vibration and dust levels were strictly monitored in accordance with the BS 6187: 2011 Code of practice for full and partial demolition.
