Floodplain Works, Rye River, Kilcock

Shannon Valley was a Main Contractor on the delivery of the R448 Flood Relief Control Works. Project included optimisation of the existing floodplain bounding the 60-acre development site adjacent to the Rye Water River in Kilcock and diversion of the existing river in part, to enable access via a new distributor road. A key element of works was to ensure no detrimental effect on existing lands upstream or downstream of the subject site in terms of flood impact. The project involved the excavation of 41,000 m3 of topsoil strip, 47,000m3 of complex composite cut and fill to shape the flood storage area along the River Rye.
